FilerFrog – Open sourcing a commercial product

August 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Before my Android development adventure, I’ve created a very useful shell extension for Windows called FilerFrog. I have done a hard work on it with a friend of mine.
Last months sales started to decline, due to marketing problems and software piracy.

The price of FileFrog prior to making it free was quite affordable – 3.99$.
In spite the low price, sales were low and I’ve decide to do something brave:

Making it freeware and also making it an open source.

This appears to be one of the best decisions I ever took about this project. We had about 15,000 in the last few days and lots of supportive articles.

The downside of it, is that I can no longer make money from FilerFrog, but at least
I have the satisfaction that more users will use it and enjoyed it.

Go ahead and download it:

It will cost you nothing 🙂
